I just faded away. I didn't have any "worldly" friends at all so it was tough! I made a few friends at work and then it just went from there. It was pretty lonely for a while there, the only friendships I had ever cultivated were with other JW's.

what do you think about jw spanking their kids at the kingdom hall?
I think it is barbaric and totally wrong!! I had the living daylights beat out of me, as did my siblings and I simply cannot get over it. I hated the meetings b/c any little thing would call for a spanking. Every meeting meant a spanking in the bathroom as well as an even worse one at home. It is expected, demanded, and preached at the meetings to beat your kids. Half the time I didn't know why I was being punished, it was just an automatic reaction from my parents b/c that is what they were taught.

my sister and her husband live in another city/state from me, so i don't get to see them that often.
he's a ministerial servant, they have two young children.
i heard a story that happened to them recently.... he was taken aside by an elder, who wanted to inspect his bag to see how many toys they were bringing to the meeting for their daughter to play with.. apparently, someone complained!.
It never fails to amaze me what people will put up with...there is NO way in the world I would have had this convo with some nosey elder. I would have told him to mind his own business and get a life. Perhaps that is why I am no longer in the religeon?? I have a mind of my own. I mean seriously, aren't there more pressing issues to attend to?

just curious, in the last week or so i can only connect maybe 3 out of 10 attempts.
and when i'm in, it will lose the page after checking a few threads.
it doesn't matter if i'm home on my wireless or at work with the giant t1 connection.. i was wondering if it's just me.. tia..

Aww thanks! I feel the same way about this site. There have been moments when I felt like I had no-one, and you are always here for me. I love and appreciate that I have this site to go to. Whether it be to post something, or just to read.

they brag about the fact that they the don' t baptize their babies because "how can a baby 'know' what religion it wants to believe in the rest of it's life!".
but a 14 year old does?.....they put so much presure on their children to get dunked, that if your not baptize by 18 years old there is something really "wrong" with you.. so the poor kid does it, just to get everyone off their backs.
legally a minor can't be held to a contract if they are under 18 years old and why?
I know exactly what you are talking about!! I was 13. There is NO way out of this religeon. I have lost my family that is still in, and there is nothing I can do about it!

she is the only jw i know that wont rat me out and she isnt active herself.
Well congrats on this first step! It is difficult no doubt about it. But, you just proved to yourself how strong you really are, and how you can do it.
This journey will no doubt be difficult along the way at times. But you will absolutely and totally be okay. I know at times you will wonder if it will all be okay but when you are on the other side - knowing you did the right thing, it will all be worth it!!
You have all of our support here. And, you will be just fine. It is soo worth it!

hi everyone, this is only my second post under this name but i'm not actually new, just couldnt remember my password under my other name as havnt been on the board for a very long time, hey i've even had a bible study in the time i've been away.. anyway, my question is, do you think their is a pecking order within the congregation,not so much overseer, elder, common publisher etc, more as in, one particular family being popular, everyone sucking up to them, them looking down their noses at the meer mortals who perhaps cant afford to pioneer or live in a palace, etc etc..

I absolutely do think there is a pecking order just as you have described! I have been out a long time but I can still remember the families names who were the high and mighty ones, and it was no coincidense that the people that were tight with them all happened to be working their way up rapidly, or were already high ups. Their kids were all little pukes, engaging in very improper behavior for Christians, but if you didn't hang out with them, you were nobody and not considered "good association".
